Is there a cost to submit?

No. Submitting to the photo book open call is completely free for all Canon Creator Lab members.

Is there an age requirement to submit?

Yes. You must have reached the legal age of majority in your province or territory of residence.

How many photos can I submit?

Up to five total: one for each category (Play, Together, Lost, Up, and Journey).

Can I submit the same photo to more than one category?

No. Each image can only be entered into one category. Choose whichever fits best.

Can I submit more than one photo to the same category?

No. You can submit one image per category, for a maximum of five total submissions.

What if I'm not sure which category my photo fits?

Trust your instinct. Every category is intentionally open to interpretation, and we won’t reassign your photo to a different one.

Are AI-generated images allowed?

No. We only accept photographs you captured and edited yourself. AI-generated or AI-altered images aren’t eligible.

Can I submit film photography?

Yes. Film photography is welcome. Submit a high-quality scan of your print or negative.

Can I edit or retouch my photos before submitting?

Yes. Edited and retouched images are accepted within reason. Standard adjustments like color, exposure, and cropping are fine.

Can I submit a photo that's already been published or posted online?

Yes, as long as you own the rights to the image and it meets the other eligibility requirements.

What file format and size do my photos need to be?

JPEG or TIFF, with a file size no larger than 100 MB.

Can I make changes to my submission after I've submitted it?

No. Once an entry is submitted, it can’t be changed.

When do submissions close?

Submissions close Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

When will I find out if I've been selected?

After submissions close our team will review every entry. We expect selections to be finalized by the end of summer. If you’re selected, we’ll reach out to you directly by email.

Will I be notified if my photo isn't selected?

We won’t be sending individual notes to entries that aren’t selected. Once the full selection process is complete, we’ll share an announcement so you’ll know where things stand. Anyone selected will also receive a direct  email.

What happens if I'm selected?

You’ll receive a complimentary hardcover copy of the book and an invitation to celebrate the launch in person at our gallery exhibition event this fall.

Will my submission be shared on social media before the book comes out?

We may feature some submissions on our social channels during the open call to celebrate the community response. Being featured there doesn’t guarantee a spot in the final book.

What rights does Canon have to use my photo if it's selected?

By submitting, you grant Canon a license to use your photo for the book, the launch event, and Canon’s own marketing and promotional materials. Full details are in the Terms and Conditions.

Do I need permission from people who appear in my photo?

Yes. If anyone in your photo is clearly identifiable, you’ll need their consent — or, if they’re a minor, a parent or guardian’s — before submitting.
